Drivers license replacement in Russia: done right

February 28, 2015

I am very excited to tell you that, for once, something is done right by Russian state organization and not, as we say in Russia, “via the asshole”, as usual.

In this case, the Russian DMV (ГИБДД).

As some might know, all my documents were stolen in Dublin.

So I am now in the process of getting the new ones.

So I got the medical report saying I am sane, not a junkie and in overall I am in a driver- ready condition (spent 1 day for all that and 3k rubles – 50$).

Then came to the SPB’s (St. Petersburg’s) DMV office, paid 2k rubles (about 33$), they checked via their database that I indeed had obtained a driver’s license before, just in another city.

Then I went through nicely designed process of taking a picture and finally receiving my driver’s license! Spent about 3 hours on all that.

Nicely done, ГИБДД (pronounced [gibedede]. Try to say it!).

i can drive again. well, actually i was doig it anyway, but tssss!
